Dr Elisabeth Adams, Managing Director and Founder of Aquarius Population Health, spoke at a continuing medical education webinar for health professionals hosted on September 23,2020 by the Consortium for Infectious Disease Control (CIDC).
With increasing demands on time and resources, decision-makers in healthcare need information about how to create a safe, effective and cost-effective screening programme. Elisabeth discussed how theoretical quantitative evidence from health economic evaluations and models can inform decision-making, and guide policy decisions at local, regional, national and international levels in the absence of empirical data.
Many methods are available to answer questions about making healthcare more efficient and better for patients. Elisabeth described how Aquarius Population Health modelled the impact of using two different screening tests for human papillomavirus (HPV) as part of a proposed cervical cancer screening programme in Ontario . Results demonstrated that an mRNA assay yielded cost savings and avoided unnecessary tests and procedures for women, and these results were echoed in other comparative modelling studies in Sweden, Denmark, the UK and France.
Nearly 200 sites logged on to listen live, and the webinar was deemed very successful by organisers. In terms of feedback:
- 100% of respondents reported that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the session
- 97% considered Elisabeth to be effective in her presentation
- 82% of respondents felt that the webinar information will be useful in their work
- 98% of respondents felt that the program met the stated learning objectives
One attendee commented, “That was a very informative webinar, with a lot of information presented in an understandable way.”
