Aquarius Population Health

Want to join our team and make a difference?

About us

We are a fast-growing and dynamic healthcare consultancy based in the Tileyard creative hub near Kings Cross, London.

We are searching for like-minded, high performing, colleagues who are as driven as we are to make a difference in their work, and who are inspired by our vision to Transform Health, for Everyone. We value evidence and innovation, problem solving and creativity, and are driven to have an impact in health care decision making.

Working with us, you will join a wide range of projects spanning quantitative and qualitative research, across public, private, and non-profit sectors. Our clients and collaborators come from the broad spectrum of life-science organisations around the world, from innovative start-ups to the very largest multinationals. We work on projects spanning medtech, pharma and service delivery; collaborating with industry partners, healthcare providers, charities, academia and government. We target six focus areas, to which all members of the team can actively contribute: economic evaluation, interactive decision tools, market evidence & insight, pathway mapping & micro-costing, writing & communication, and patient insight.

We are passionate about giving our team opportunities for growth and progression and our committed to co-creating a detailed, structured career and development plan for everyone on the team.

There is an emphasis on learning and the development of wide-ranging technical and consultancy skills, with on the-job training complemented by formal learning: everyone gets a training budget to spend, refreshed every year. We believe that as each one of our talented team’s performance and capability grows, so Aquarius grows and, because we are still small, you also benefit from being close to the action and decision-making.

Here’s a summary of our main consulting roles (you will find more detail on those roles we are currently recruiting here):

the Analyst role is Aquarius’ entry level research & consultancy role. Although it’s Aquarius’ ‘entry level’ there is not much that is entry level about the work. We prefer technically accomplished candidates who have mastered the basics of self-management, receiving and giving critical & constructive feedback, meeting quality expectations, and who have a year or two’s health-related work experience – especially within a consulting or client-side environment.

will lead smaller or simpler projects (or parts of larger ones), with oversight from a more experienced member of the team. Consultants also regularly perform similar Analyst-style and more complex research duties. Consultants will usually have at least 3 years’ working experience preferably within a consulting or commercial client-side environment.

will lead more complex, or larger projects and play a bigger role in the design and implementation of projects (as well as leading project proposal writing). Senior Consultants also play a project oversight role and they will line manage 3-4 consultant researchers. They may also play coaching and training roles.

Senior Consultants will usually have 4-5 years’ or more consulting/research experience, with a solid proportion of those spent within a consulting or client-side environment.

our most experienced sub-director level consulting role.
Managing Consultants play a leading role in client management, strategic planning
(especially sales, project and performance management), and project oversight and
advice. They will also line manage, coach, and support team training initiatives.

Our office reflects the realities of post-Covid working world: it’s been designed with team feedback and input to be a healthy and happy working environment, that fosters collaboration opportunities (particular attention has been paid to the meeting and breakout spaces) and focused work (through careful management of air quality, sound levels and daylight/lighting in the main office).

If you are passionate about delivering excellent results, working alongside a diverse, hard-working, and talented team that’s contributing to the growth of a company that is doing good in the world, we want to hear from you.

We offer hybrid working and will consider applications from the UK as well as sponsorship of non-UK based candidates, since we believe passionately in the value of hiring people with different backgrounds and life-experiences.

Our values

While we are constantly evolving as a business and group, co-created with the team, we are proud to be able to say that these values reflect our collective beliefs, motivations, and culture.

Captures our collective intrinsic motivation to work in healthcare, and at Aquarius to make a difference at the population level, coupled with our intention to embed healthy working practices in our culture. Its why we operate a flexible hybrid working policy, for example. Autonomy over working practices is a major factor in reducing workplace stress, while regular in-office working promotes our social health.

We are all on a journey to grow. To grow, we need to learn, and so we all hope for honest feedback & support so that everyone can find their right growth path. Critical, constructive feedback means applying to our colleagues’ work the same critical thinking we apply to the problems we solve, and that we bring to the act of evidence generation. It isn’t always easy to give or receive feedback, but we are all the richer for it when we do so.

Without our clients we cannot make an impact in healthcare, so our first job is to identify what is the client’s need (they may not know it yet), rather than just what they want. Aquarius is the watercarrier, and it’s our duty to take clients with us on the journeys we take when solving their problems. We never forget that for every project clients have a choice: it’s our duty to continually push ourselves to make sure we deliver and exceed their expectations.

We navigate and explore tricky evidence needs, against a (sometimes evolving) brief, and within the boundaries all briefs impose. We adopt a positive attitude to the application of our creativity to all problems: whether personal, team, or client-facing. We fail quickly and learn from our mistakes.

Speaks to the objectivity and independence of our evidence-based work, and the level of confidence we can have in it, and which we aim to instil in our clients and collaborators. It means we can have the confidence to work with everyone, even if their interests differ, we can unite around the value and integrity of the evidence.

The data are meaningless without the skilful application of analytical skills, critical thought, and giving them a voice through imaginative storytelling. Our papers, “ECP” interactive pathway maps, and decision tools are perhaps the most tangible expressions of the evidenced stories we tell, but we apply this thinking throughout all our analysis and work.

The most joyful moments in our work come from the exchange of diverse thinking and experiences of our team. We also believe that the best work can be born out of disagreement and uncertainty. This is the favourite of many on the team, which speaks to the creativity and rewards they achieve when collaborating over
the hardest problems.

Hear from our team

Dr Susie Huntington

Managing Consultant

I really enjoy being part of a small company that works on a wide variety of projects. It gives me and my colleagues a great breadth of experience and creates an exciting work environment. It also means that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the company strategy and business development activities – something that you probably wouldn’t find in a larger firm. No two projects are ever the same so I’m constantly being challenged and growing my skills – as every new project brings interest and opportunity for further development.”

Verena Schneider

Consultant

Aquarius Population Health lives its values, which are evident in the nature and quality of the projects, the communication and collaboration with stakeholders, and the investment in the team. I don’t think settling into a company when joining during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown could have been easier elsewhere. I feel very supported, valued and trusted, and have frequent opportunities to grow and extend my knowledge and experience. The projects I have been working on so far have been stimulating and developed both my academic as well as client-focussed competencies.”
